Course Goals: The course should enable students to understand how computers work in general, to understand a number of ways in which computers are actually used, to have an awareness of the individual and social impact of some of these uses, and to be comfortable working with the following list of software systems: 1) the Operating System at a basic level sufficient to interact with the other applications, 2) the Word Processor, 3) the Spreadsheet, 4) the Database, 5) Telecommunications (in particular, e-mail and WWW browsing).
Grading System: Your final grade will be determined as follows:

Weekly Assignments (10 to 12) - 40%
Midterm - 30%
Final - 30% (comprehensive)
>= 95%: A+>= 60%: C
>= 90%: A>= 55%: C-
>= 85%: A->= 50%: D+
>= 80%: B+>= 45%: D
>= 75%: B>= 40%: D-
>= 70%: B-< 40%: F
>= 65%: C+
Make-Up Policy: No make-up exam will be given unless the student's absence is approved by the instructor BEFORE the exam is given.
Assignments: Weekly assignments will be posted on the Web and given in the lab. They are due by the end of the lab session on their due dates. Late assignments are accepted, at 10% penalty per working day. That is, if the assignment is turned in one week late, you get 50% credit.

Copying Policy: No student is permitted to copy another person's assignment. Students involved in copying will be given F's for the assignment and/or course.
